A concrete slab in Waianae needs more than a flat pour. Heat and wind pull moisture out of fresh concrete fast. Concrete does not dry to gain strength, it cures through a chemical reaction that needs water. When the surface loses water too quickly, you get plastic shrinkage cracking, a weak top layer, and dusting that shows up later as a chalky garage floor.

Soil is the other half of the story. Much of the leeward coast has expansive clay mixed with coral and older fill of unknown quality. Base material and compaction

A crushed aggregate base spreads the load and gives water somewhere to go instead of pooling against the underside of the slab. The base gets placed in lifts and compacted, not dumped and leveled. Vapor barrier and reinforcement
